Company History
The business was first registered on 12 May 1939 by Charles Shorthouse, the grandfather of the current owners. The first premises were in Clifton Road, Aston, Close to the HP Foods Factory, the road giving the business it's name.
However, many years later, Clifton Road was to be removed without trace to make way for the Aston Expressway in the early seventies. The business originally dealt in Tea Chests and wooden cases only. Hence "The Clifton Case Company". In 1946 the business moved to a site in Witton Lane, close to the Aston Villa Football Ground.
In the seventies the founders' son John Shorthouse, took over the business and expanded the business into recycled cardboard cartons. In hindsight, the business was at the forefront of the recycling revolution providing an environmental alternative form of packaging long before any green, recycling issues were even thought of. In 1964 the business was registered as a limited company. The company has since evolved from a one man band delivering Tea Chests by Horse and Cart to employ a staff of twelve and delivering cartons with a fleet of five HGV's.
In Jan 2001, the company moved to a new, 16,000 sq ft site in Shady Lane, Great Barr. In 2003, a new showroom was opened specifically aimed at house movers and the general public.
In 2006, a new purpose built warehouse was built adjacent to the old site. The old site was converted into a new Self Storage facility.
Transfer
On 10 November 2008, the business of the company was transferred to Jaffabox Ltd with John's son, Richard Shorthouse running the once used carton devision of Jaffabox Ltd.
